Meet your Creative :)

the creative: James turner on location, filming an elopement in Utah near St. George.

Hello lovely people of the world. I thought I would make a quick blog post to further introduce myself! My name is James Turner. I have been in the video world for over 13 years, starting it all my freshman year of high school. It all started with an introduction to video (or as we called it in highschool “A/V”). This was a class were we just learn to make videos from scratch and the rules and techniques behind filmmaking. If we end up on an adventure together at some point, ask me to see one of my videos from high school if you want a good laugh :). From there I took more and more A/V classes from independent studies to teaching the morning announcement which we filmed everyday for our school.

After graduating high school I knew I wanted to pursue a career in film but was not exactly sure how or doing what. I started my journey in community college getting my general education credits to transfer to an awesome film school, Full Sail University in FL. However, there was a point where I was unsure about the financials of getting a film degree along with some pressure from outside sources, I ended up switching to mechanical engineering. This may come to a shock as it does to most since they are literally on the opposite end of the spectrum from one another. Well, as I definitely do have a very creative mind, I also have a very logical/math based mindset. I was always good with math, numbers, and problem solving so this was a solid choice for me (so I thought). After years of making fun videos, I realized I could start utilizing my camera for my own gain. So I started introducing myself into wedding filmmaking in 2017. After a few years in business, I knew this is what I wanted to do and continue doing and there was nothing that was going to stop me. I had the option to finish school for a degree I most likely wouldn’t use or be done with school considering I wont use the degree. I had already spent 6 years in school at this point and told myself I just needed to finish regardless. I now like to say I have a very expensive piece of paper sitting on my desk with my name on it haha!

As I started getting older, I realized I just really love the outdoors. I love camping, biking, hiking, and all things alike. I ended up doing more and more of these outdoor activities. After almost 6 years in wedding filmmaking I realized that I could absolutely combine my two biggest passions in life: Adventuring/Traveling & Filmmaking. And thus, True Summit Films was born. The ability to go on adventures with such awesome people and document the journey is the most incredible thing I could imagine doing. Going to places like Iceland, the mountains of Utah, Colorado, Washington, and many more!

True Summit Films was an absolute blast to get going but let me tell you, trying to come up with a name for a business is even more difficult than maintaining it! I am so excited for this next journey and I am so excited to work with you and create some awesome memories. Feel free to check out some of our most recent work in the “Portfolio” section. And of course if you want to know anything more, I am always down for a chat. I love meeting new people and getting outside my comfort zone. So let’s get this adventure started!
