The Property | Getting There

So you’re probably here for one of a few things. You’re either looking for a place to elope or get married, curious about The Smith Cabin, or just love seeing some awesome elopement content 😄

We had a couple absolutely blow our mind with their venue choice for their elopement or some may call a micro wedding. When we first heard about it, we were 10000% in. The Smith Cabin is an absolute gem of an event space or a space you can stay at or rent. It’s so exclusive for weddings/events though that they only do 3 per year. So if you do want to hold your wedding or elopement here, make sure you contact them ASAP so you can get a spot reserved. You can surprisingly bring up to 50 guests!

With views like this just literal steps away outside the back porch, what more could you ask for? Well at a whopping 12,000ft in elevation you better be ready to be deprived of your oxygen! 😂

Now if you live in CO or are from here, you probably wont have too many issues with the elevation but keep in mind if anyone is joining from out of state, it could be hard so you may need some oxygen tanks for them so they can have a good time. And of course, for those out of staters or lightweights, make sure they avoid alcohol while up there. Otherwise everyone should have an awesome time!!

One last thing before we talk a little more about the wedding up at the cabin: this cabin is only accessible by 2 track road up a dirt inclined road. On a good day you should be able to get up there with an AWD or 4WD vehicle (although we do recommend at minimum a 4WD vehicle capable of off road terrain). However, on a day with rain or just had rain prior, you may struggle a bit without the proper vehicle. So make sure you contact the owners to get their thoughts on this before you try to get up there with your Prius. In the winter you can only get there via snowmobile! They do have parking areas down at the bottom for a few cars so you can leave your car at the bottom.

There is a huge shared parking lot more towards aspen or the main road that everyone can meet in just about 15 min away and you can carpool with less cars to the bottom of the hill where you can get shuttled to the top of the cabin. If you are feeling risky you can try to drive but we recommend only taking vehicles suited for the job.

The Wedding

This wasn’t your typical wedding at 12,000ft even though there’s not much normal about that! This couple wanted to have a FUN day and boy did they ever have one. The day started off with some yard games in the areas around the property ranging from HUGE Jenga, shoot the bottle, corn hole, and much more. They competed for a first place prize keeping score of each game that they played. I have to say that this is probably the coolest way to start off your wedding day. Nothing like hanging out with your people having some fun before getting to the wedding stuff.

Once the yard games are done, we get down to business. The couple actually wanted to go out and get some fun photos without their wedding attire so we hoped in the side by side they brought up and went for some riding. This property boasts so much to do from ATV riding, hiking, mountain biking, and in the winter you can ski/snowboard, and snowshoe. In this case we went for a ride to take some cute photos of them before they got ready for the day. Went down some 2 tracking trails until we were at a very epic spot.

You basically have panoramic views all around this property and the land surrounding. After a little photo session we went back to the cabin to get the ball rollin’ on the main events of the day which of course is getting married. But before this we definitely had to do a little interview for the video.

During the first look, the couple was able to get 2 views, one of the mountains and one of the person they’re marrying. Still with a little bit of privacy away from everyone and some beautiful weather.

With all of the available views around you better bet that the ceremony spot is an absolute gem as well. With the couple standing up on a slight hill with nothing but mountains in the background, it’s just beautiful. That’s the only word I can use to describe it. Also just a little bonus, it allows for quite a lot of room for us photographers and videographers to get around and get some very unique angles.

After the ceremony it’s just a night full of fun! Pinatas, fires, food, dancing, and more. We were able to all hang out for cocktail hour having some relaxing time chatting and capturing the night. One thing the couple did that was super fun was having a pinata as well as a fire to brand a log with their wedding related terms.

Of course the sunset is absolutely prime up here in the mountains and on such a beautiful day. You really cannot go wrong. With that, we took the couple out for some sunset photos and they were EPIC. With nothing but mountains surrounding all of us, you can’t help but have a great photo no matter where you take it. There are also some trails around and nearby you can go on in which we ended up doing some 2 tracking with their jeep to get some more unique spots.

With all of that being said, we definitely recommend getting married at the Smith Cabin regardless of the size of your wedding (up to 50 people). It’s somewhere we would love to go back to and I cannot imagine waking up there with the sunrise over the mountains. If you have any questions about the property or this wedding you can shoot us a message via our contact form.
